Research Scientist

This Scientist position is in the Application Development lab of Coating Materials R&D and will support new product innovation in architectural coating area. The primary role is to conduct formulation and application development research of coating products utilizing polymeric binders developed in the synthesis lab. The person will have direct, hands on involvement with the formulation, characterization and application development of new polymeric binder products against customer need for the global architectural or decorative coatings market. The person will actively explore and create proprietary intellectual asset with high industrial value. A thorough background in polymer chemistry and colloid interface science is needed. Demonstrated expertise for structure-property understanding, materials science, statistical experimental design and data modeling will be highly desirable. Above all the person has to demonstrate exceptional technical leadership.

The person will work as a part of multifunctioal team and may also serve as a project leader and with supervisory responsibility of his/her laboratory team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work on multi-functional teams with Synthesis, Technical Service, and Marketing personnel are required. A market and customer focused mind set and bias for action would be needed. The successful candidate must be flexible and willing to align and prioritize their duties to meet the changing needs of the customer and Business, as well as the dynamic needs of the project teams on which they are a member.

The candiddate will be also expected to identify and create novel technology options in support of architectural coating market need leveraging internal and external knowledge base. The candidate should also have good technical documentation skill and oral presentation skill in internal and external technical forums.

Ph.D in polymer science, chemistry or chemical engineering

7-10 years technical experience in polymer science, formulation chemistry, or related fields.
