Senior Production Engineer


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The primary role of this position is to learn, lead and eventually manage Plant Operations. The successful candidate must have be a chemical engineer with experience in large, complex chemical operations. The successful candidate will learn the technical operation of the plant, and assist the Plant Manager in driving continuous improvement in all aspects of the multiple plants which they will be entrusted. The Senior Production Engineer must enforce and comply with Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) standards as set forth under various regulatory agencies and company. Additionally, he/she will insure the highest plant reliability, while implementing cost efficiency measures.

SHE Focus:

1. As a member of the plant leadership team, the senior production engineer is jointly responsible for: o Overall plant achievement of 0 Lost Time injuries, 0 Recordable injuries, and 0 Environmental/Process Incidents, and setting standards for safety and housekeeping.
2. Fully participate in site SHE initiatives including performing periodic audits, incident investigations and housekeeping inspections.
3. Conduct periodic departmental inspections to assure compliance to existing safety rules and procedures and to assess the effectiveness and need for other risk reduction activities within the departments.
4. Assure all equipment safety inspections and audits are performed and documented.
5. Instill discipline and accountability in execution of Plant Operations - Lead this effort by example.
6. Enforce all site and safety rules and procedures within the maintenance, utility, and contractors used in these activities. Lead by example.
7. Assure appropriate and adequate SHE training is provided to and understood by all direct and indirect reports, and contractors. – Providing professional documentation is necessary.
8. Assure mechanical integrity program is maintained and adhered to.
9. Assure all contractors understand and adhere to plant safety rules and procedures.
10. Participate in regulatory and internal audits as needed.
11. Represent through daily actions that reinforce the corporate values demonstrating personal commitment to a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace for employees.
12. Supervises staff and contractors with regard to hazardous and universal waste regulations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain general plant and operations facilities.
2. Improve Plant Operations and cost structure.
3. Improve plant reliability.
4. Assist with the implementation of new large capital projects
5. Manage Shutdowns including scope and design development, construction execution, and cost management and accounting.
6. Manage and provide oversight of plant operators, maintenance crews, both employees and outside contractors.
7. Instill discipline and accountability in execution of site and departmental plant policies/procedures. Lead this effort by example.
8. Implement formal program of root cause identification/failure analysis and corrective actions for maintenance related failures.
9. Provide the leadership to perform work in an orderly and proactive manner based on principles of reliable design and preventive/predictive maintenance practices.

10. Develop, implement and continually improve processes.
11. Be a leader that has the potential to develop into the next plant manager
12. Develop, report, monitor and take responsibility for (along with the Plant manager) improvement of key performance indicators for operations such as maintenance expenses, the availability component of OEE, equipment availability, production schedules, and technical troubleshooting.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering preferred. Bachelor of Science in other engineering disciplines or equivalent technical degree is acceptable with commensurate experience. Specific experience must be in large scale chemical operations.

Experience: Five to Ten years working in an industrial facility, preferably a chemical process production plant, with at least three years in process engineering , with three or more years of supervisory experience in maintenance, or process and/or project engineering.

Skills:
· Excellent leadership and organizational skills to manage, motivate and develop personnel and to facilitate cooperation between departments.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project. Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, and general understanding of databases
· Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene concepts and Personal Protective Equipment. Must have working knowledge of OSHA personnel and process safety standards, especially the impact of mechanical equipment and instruments on process safety. Should have general awareness of air, water, waste, wastewater, and storm water environmental regulations.
· Working knowledge of Mechanical Integrity systems and requirements.
· Working knowledge Preventative and Predictive Maintenance Concepts
· Working Knowledge of Project Management/Engineering fundamentals
· Working knowledge of Computer Based Maintenance Management Systems (SAP knowledge a plus)
· Familiarity with batch and continuous processing a plus
· Knowledge of 5S, 6 Sigma a plus
