Position: Director of Applications

Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, directs and oversees Laboratory functions. Provides education and training for technical staff in terms of product development, formulation, testing procedures, raw material data, etc. Manages and supervises in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; monitors overall results and appraises individual performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

Responsible for administrative functions including: assigning proper lab personnel for ink trials, customer visits, etc., performance and salary evaluation, interviewing and/or selecting final applicants for hire, conducts employee counseling - provides feedback, disciplinary action, as per company policies and procedures.

Responsible for all technical projects for all customers in the specific region ($80 - 100M) Coordinating between Sales; R&D SCM; HSE; Purchasing departments. The candidate will also communicate with technical staff in other regions in order to find the best solution globally available. Regular participation in international technology meetings and keeping abreast of up-to-date technology and/or all technical aspects of the industry will be required.

Requirements

BS Chemistry (Organic preferred), 10 years comprehensive knowledge of resin, pigment and additive chemistry for printing ink applications, advanced leadership skills and experience working with international markets.

Position

The Team Leader position is the first level of supervision in the Engineering Department, and includes a combination of managing others and contributing individual technical work. The planning horizon is typically 0-12 months with an emphasis on successfully executing current project and customer support work in a professional manner. Manage a team in the Corporate Quality Assurance Group (CQA), provide proactive leadership and employee development to achieve goals in activities related to Corporate Quality Assurance responsibilities

Education

Degreed Candidates: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Statistics, Quality or a relevant science discipline

Requirements

-Requires no less than five years of supervisory experience or in managing technical projects and directing team work efforts to meet corporate, departmental and group goals
-Requires no less than five years of experience as a technical resource for a manufacturing/production process
-Requires no less than five years of overseeing development and implementation of quality standards, practices and procedures
-Requires no less than five years using statistical tools to improve control and reduce variation in production processes. Methodologies to include but not limited to DOE, SPC and Red X tools
-Requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time domestically and internationally

Major Responsibilities:

The incumbent is responsible for leading the identification, evaluation, and capture of new structural adhesives (ATA) business opportunities for NA Automotive OEM industry group at automotive OEM and Tier customers. Such new business opportunities will generally be automotive closure panels built in OEM assembly plants and/or at the tier supplier locations. Managing a sales team of account managers, the incumbent gathers and communicates market information used in the formulation of market segment strategies. The incumbent will also have some direct key account management responsibilities, along with being a leader or core member in cross-functional meetings for defining and commercializing new products and programs. The incumbent’s sales team is responsible for achieving commercial sales at targeted existing and new customers. Incumbent must effectively manage multiple priorities and complex issues in a dynamic business environment.


Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. degree preferably in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or other science discipline. 8-10 years sales, marketing, field technical service or business development with direct customer contact and responsibilities along with 5 or more years of sales team management experience. Automotive OEM and/or Tier structural adhesives selling, marketing and managing required. Must possess understanding of the automotive structural adhesives technologies, including knowledge and experience using basic adhesive applications and testing equipment. Proven ability to create/maintain an effective team environment, strong business acumen, technical aptitude, problem-solving, professional selling, communication and cross-functional leadership skills are required along with a detailed understanding of the customer engagement process. Fluency in English is required along with excellent interpersonal communication skills, proficiency in MS office suite, and proven capability to quickly understand relevant applicable product technologies. A valid driver’s license is required. This position requires overnight travel (domestic).



Preferred Qualifications:

MBA in Business or related field. Previous experience and/or relationships with significant Automotive OEM’s is desired. Knowledge of company products and services and experience with highly complex agreements desirable. Experience with SAP.

Research Scientist

This Scientist position is in the Application Development lab of Coating Materials R&D and will support new product innovation in architectural coating area. The primary role is to conduct formulation and application development research of coating products utilizing polymeric binders developed in the synthesis lab. The person will have direct, hands on involvement with the formulation, characterization and application development of new polymeric binder products against customer need for the global architectural or decorative coatings market. The person will actively explore and create proprietary intellectual asset with high industrial value. A thorough background in polymer chemistry and colloid interface science is needed. Demonstrated expertise for structure-property understanding, materials science, statistical experimental design and data modeling will be highly desirable. Above all the person has to demonstrate exceptional technical leadership.

The person will work as a part of multifunctioal team and may also serve as a project leader and with supervisory responsibility of his/her laboratory team. 1. PhD in Food Science or a related filed with 3+ years of relevant experience or MS in Food Science with 8+ years relevant work experience required. Exceptional candidates with a BS in Food Science plus 10+ years relevant work experience may be considered.

2. Deep food science skills with experience in soups, sauces, gravies, dressings and other relevant areas.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The primary role of this position is to learn, lead and eventually manage Plant Operations. The successful candidate must have be a chemical engineer with experience in large, complex chemical operations. The successful candidate will learn the technical operation of the plant, and assist the Plant Manager in driving continuous improvement in all aspects of the multiple plants which they will be entrusted. The Senior Production Engineer must enforce and comply with Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) standards as set forth under various regulatory agencies and company. Additionally, he/she will insure the highest plant reliability, while implementing cost efficiency measures.

SHE Focus:

1. As a member of the plant leadership team, the senior production engineer is jointly responsible for: o Overall plant achievement of 0 Lost Time injuries, 0 Recordable injuries, and 0 Environmental/Process Incidents, and setting standards for safety and housekeeping.
2. Fully participate in site SHE initiatives including performing periodic audits, incident investigations and housekeeping inspections.
3. Conduct periodic departmental inspections to assure compliance to existing safety rules and procedures and to assess the effectiveness and need for other risk reduction activities within the departments.
4. Assure all equipment safety inspections and audits are performed and documented.
5. Instill discipline and accountability in execution of Plant Operations - Lead this effort by example.
6. Enforce all site and safety rules and procedures within the maintenance, utility, and contractors used in these activities. Lead by example.
7. Assure appropriate and adequate SHE training is provided to and understood by all direct and indirect reports, and contractors. – Providing professional documentation is necessary.
8. Assure mechanical integrity program is maintained and adhered to.
9. Assure all contractors understand and adhere to plant safety rules and procedures.
10. Participate in regulatory and internal audits as needed.
11. Represent through daily actions that reinforce the corporate values demonstrating personal commitment to a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace for employees.
12. Supervises staff and contractors with regard to hazardous and universal waste regulations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain general plant and operations facilities.
2. Improve Plant Operations and cost structure.
3. Improve plant reliability.
4. Assist with the implementation of new large capital projects
5. Manage Shutdowns including scope and design development, construction execution, and cost management and accounting.
6. Manage and provide oversight of plant operators, maintenance crews, both employees and outside contractors.
7. Instill discipline and accountability in execution of site and departmental plant policies/procedures. Lead this effort by example.
8. Implement formal program of root cause identification/failure analysis and corrective actions for maintenance related failures.
9. Provide the leadership to perform work in an orderly and proactive manner based on principles of reliable design and preventive/predictive maintenance practices.

10. Develop, implement and continually improve processes.
11. Be a leader that has the potential to develop into the next plant manager
12. Develop, report, monitor and take responsibility for (along with the Plant manager) improvement of key performance indicators for operations such as maintenance expenses, the availability component of OEE, equipment availability, production schedules, and technical troubleshooting.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering preferred. Bachelor of Science in other engineering disciplines or equivalent technical degree is acceptable with commensurate experience. Specific experience must be in large scale chemical operations.

Experience: Five to Ten years working in an industrial facility, preferably a chemical process production plant, with at least three years in process engineering , with three or more years of supervisory experience in maintenance, or process and/or project engineering.

Skills:
· Excellent leadership and organizational skills to manage, motivate and develop personnel and to facilitate cooperation between departments.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project. Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, and general understanding of databases
· Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene concepts and Personal Protective Equipment. Must have working knowledge of OSHA personnel and process safety standards, especially the impact of mechanical equipment and instruments on process safety. Should have general awareness of air, water, waste, wastewater, and storm water environmental regulations.
· Working knowledge of Mechanical Integrity systems and requirements.
· Working knowledge Preventative and Predictive Maintenance Concepts
· Working Knowledge of Project Management/Engineering fundamentals

Specific education or training in Reliability Engineering or Maintenance management is a plus.

Primary Function and Scope of Role:
The Enzymologist is a research and development position working in the area of enzymatic modification of Polysaccharides.

Key Responsibilities and Activities:

Research - Plan and conduct laboratory experimental work related to the enzyme-mediated synthesis and modification of starch and other polysaccharides.

3. Strong background in chemical and physical preparatory /analytical techniques

6. Ability to understand and interpret technology and IP landscapes to establish the state of the art in the relevant scientific areas for new research
